Acetaminophen-induced Liver Injury: Protective Effect of <i>Laportea aestuans</i> Aqueous Leaf Extract in Experimental Mice Model

Acetaminophen commonly referred to as paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic drug available over the counter medications. Indiscriminate use of acetaminophen for management pain fever causes liver damage. The study evaluated hepatoprotective effect Laportea aestuans aqueous leaf extract in acetaminophen-treated mice. Group 1: control, 2: APAP treated, 3, 4, 5, 6 7 received 25, 50, 100, 200 400 mg/kg bw days then treated with 300 respectively, 8: silymarin group. Biochemical parameters were analyzed. Activities function marker enzymes (gamma- glutamyl transferase, alkaline phosphatase, lactate glutamate dehydrogenases, aspartate, alanine aminotransferases) significantly (p< 0.05) lower serum mice pre-administered when compared control antioxidant (p<0.05) increased groups or silymarin. Histological micrographs also showed that hepatic architectures preadministered maintained following treatment APAP. Pre-administration 100 gave best protective against APAP-induced hepatotoxicity. Findings from this L. evidently protects acetaminophen-induced injury, exhibiting properties. This supports ethnobotanical prevention diseases.
